A proposed framework for developing communicative competence among non-native Arabic language learners in light of artificial intelligence applications

This study aimed to propose a framework for developing the dimensions of communicative competence among non-native Arabic language learners in light of artificial intelligence applications. The descriptive-analytical method was employed, as it is the primary tool for studying social, human, and scientific phenomena as they exist in reality. This method involves collecting and accurately describing data, then analyzing it to derive logical and evidence-supported conclusions and interpretations. For the purposes of the study, the researcher prepared the following materials and tools: a questionnaire to identify the dimensions of communicative competence appropriate for non-native Arabic language learners, a questionnaire to identify suitable artificial intelligence applications for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, and a scale for measuring the dimensions of communicative competence among non-native Arabic language learners. The scale was administered to a sample of (45) non-native Arabic language learners. The results of the study revealed that the performance level of non-native Arabic language learners—the study sample—in the dimensions of the communicative competence scale was moderate, with a mean score of 1.84 and a standard deviation of 0.75. Based on these results, the study proposed a framework for developing the dimensions of communicative competence among non-native Arabic language learners using artificial intelligence applications. The study also offered a set of recommendations and research suggestions, including: the necessity of considering the artificial intelligence applications identified in the current study when preparing and designing language and training programs for non-native Arabic language learners; and the importance of developing language and training materials for non-native Arabic language learners in light of the communicative situations they encounter.
